Serving the San Francisco Bay Area

Home care services across the Bay Area

Eight home care services that help families keep someone safe, comfortable, and at home. Most families use more than one, and every plan is built around the person rather than a package.

The short answer

How our home care services work

Safe and Sound provides non-medical home care services throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Non-medical means our caregivers help with daily living — bathing, meals, mobility, medication reminders, companionship, and transportation — rather than clinical treatment. Nursing, wound care, and therapy come from licensed providers, and we work alongside them regularly.

Families rarely arrive knowing which service they need, and that is fine. Most people start by describing what is happening at home, and the category becomes obvious once we hear it. The list below exists to help you recognize your situation, not to make you choose correctly before calling.

All of our home care services begin the same way, with a free in-home visit. We meet your loved one, look at the house, listen to what the family is worried about, and put a written plan and a real cost in front of you. Nothing is signed at that visit.

Not sure which one? Call us and describe what is happening. That conversation is free and usually settles it in ten minutes.

Companion Care

Loneliness wears a person down as surely as any physical condition. Our companion caregivers bring real conversation, shared activities, and a familiar face your loved one can count on.

Why families trust us

What is behind every service

The same standards apply whichever service you choose.

Every caregiver is vetted

Background checks, California Home Care Aide registration, reference checks, and TB clearance before anyone enters your home. You can ask to see the documentation.

The same faces, week to week

We match caregivers thoughtfully and keep the schedule steady, so your parent builds a real relationship instead of retelling their story every visit.

Families stay in the loop

Notes after visits and a direct line to the person managing the care plan. If you live out of state, this is often the part that helps most.

We train the trainers

Our team teaches CPR, First Aid, and BLS certification to the wider community. That same emergency readiness walks into your home with our caregivers.

Plans that flex

Increase hours after a hospital stay, then scale back during recovery. No long lock-in contracts and no penalty for adjusting.

Honest about our limits

We are non-medical. When your family needs skilled nursing or therapy, we will say so and point you to the right provider, even when it is not us.

Getting started

How to begin, in four steps

Most families go from first phone call to first shift within a week. Urgent situations move faster.

  1. Call or send a note

Tell us what is going on. There is no script and no pressure, and the conversation is free.

  2. We visit the home

We meet your loved one, walk the house, and look for risks. Bring your questions and your siblings.

  3. We build the plan

You get a written care plan with tasks, schedule, and cost. Nothing is hidden, and nothing is assumed.

  4. Care begins

We introduce the caregiver personally, then check in after the first week to make sure the match feels right.

Common questions

Questions families ask first

What does non-medical home care mean?

Non-medical home care means help with everyday living rather than clinical treatment. Caregivers assist with bathing, dressing, meals, mobility, medication reminders, housekeeping, transportation, and companionship. They do not provide nursing, injections, or wound care, which require a licensed clinician.

Which home care service do we need?

Most families do not know, and they do not need to. Describe what is happening at home during a free visit and we will tell you which service fits, or which combination does. Companion care and personal care are the two most common starting points.

Can we combine more than one service?

Yes, and most families do. A single caregiver often provides companion care and personal care in the same visit, and respite care can sit alongside any other service. It is one schedule and one plan, not separate contracts.

How much do home care services cost?

Cost depends on hours and the level of assistance involved. Hourly care costs less per week than overnight or 24-hour coverage, and Bay Area rates sit near the regional average for non-medical care. You get a written quote after the free in-home visit, before committing to anything.

How quickly can care start?

Most families begin within a week of the first call. Hospital and rehab discharges can often be covered within 24 to 48 hours. Call and describe the timeline and we will tell you honestly what is possible.

What areas do you serve?

We are based in Pleasant Hill, California and serve families throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including the East Bay, San Francisco, the Peninsula, the South Bay, and the North Bay.

Not sure which service you need?

That is the normal starting point. Describe what is happening at home and we will tell you what fits. The visit is free and nothing is signed.
